Architectural story:

The house at 3 Cozzens Court originally stood in Swansea, Massachusetts. It is a rural, one-and-a-half-story building with a central chimney and a gable roof. Built ca. 1731, it is typical of the Narragansett Basin and has early architectural fabric on the interior, including mantels, moldings, and doors.

Restoration story:

This house was one of a number of buildings scheduled for demolition and offered to NRF in a last-minute hope of its being rescued. NRF purchased the house in 1977. It was disassembled and put in storage until 1981-82 when NRF re-assembled and restored the house on the Cozzens Court site.

While our restoration practices have evolved over the past six decades, during the late 1960s and 1970s, NRF was seen regionally as the best available resource for quick and effective action for buildings that needed to be preserved and restored.

People story:

The process by which NRF acquired the building meant that the history of the houseand the names connected to itare not yet known. We look forward to uncovering more about the people who lived and worked at this house.
